There are amazing coastal walks on your doorstep, walking east takes you to Carlyon Bay, which is a stretch of almost 2 miles of coarse sand. Actually it isn't really sand but "stent", a mixture of waste from the tin and china clay industries - if you look closely you will see it is made up of large grains of grey quartz with the odd grain of tourmaline. The length of the beach here is actually divided into three sections - Crinnis, Shorthorn and Polgaver. Travelling west the coast path leads to Duporth, Porthpean and then south around the outskirts of Carlyon Bay towards Pentewan and Mevagissey.
Further west lies the Roseland Peninsula, a stunning blend of rugged coastline, hidden coves, and quaint villages. Known for its natural beauty, it offers serene beaches, scenic walking trails, and panoramic sea views. Rich in history, the area boasts ancient churches and picturesque harbors. The lush countryside, dotted with wildflowers, invites exploration. Local seafood is a treat, with fresh catches available in charming pubs and restaurants. Whether you enjoy hiking, water sports, or simply soaking in the tranquility, the Roseland Peninsula offers the perfect escape for nature lovers and history buffs alike.
To the east of Carlyon Bay lies Fowey, a picturesque harbour town on Cornwall’s stunning south coast. Wander its quaint, winding streets, lined with boutique shops, cafés, and waterfront restaurants. Explore the Fowey Estuary by boat, relax on beautiful sandy beaches, or hike the scenic South West Coast Path. Steeped in history, Fowey inspired Daphne du Maurier and boasts a rich maritime heritage. Enjoy vibrant festivals, watersports, and breathtaking coastal views.
